Jasper National Park is found in Alberta, Canada. Its area measures 4,200 square miles and situated specifically west of Edmonton and Banff National Park in the north. The park is composed of waterfalls, hot springs, mountains, ice field and glaciers. Its name was derived after Jasper Hawes who was in charge of the operations of the trading post for the North West Company. Established in 1907, Jasper National Park was recognized as a national park in 1930.
Its wild life is very diverse housing moose, mountain goat, beaver, grizzly bear, elk, mule deer, caribou, white-tailed deer, bighorn sheep, grey wolf, mountain lion and wolverine. In addition to the scenic attractions, you will find Medicine Lake, Pyramid Lake, Tonquin Valley and Mount Edith Cavell. Visitors who are in the area should try recreational activities like skiing, fishing, rafting, camping, kayaking, hiking and wild life viewing. There is also a hot spring named Miette Hot Springs situated near the northeast entrance.
The park also houses the tallest mountain in Alberta which is Mt Columbia at 3747 meters. The Maligne Valley, which is known to be the longest underground drainage system, is found here as well as the most accessible glacier named Athabasca. For experienced hikers, this is a haven to see with 1,200 hiking trails blessed with a scenic view where you can see alpine meadows and cascading waterfalls.
Jasper National Park is open all throughout the year but, temporary closure is from October until April. The busiest season is the months of July and August, so it is advised to call to book for accommodations.
